Using the language of monuments and memorials, each column’s shape references a Shabbat candlestick confiscated from the Jewish families of Offenbach. The use of recycled cardboard and paper acts as a signifier of transience and a vessel for memory. The candlesticks are normally found in pairs. By showing them as oversized and individual forms, an emphasis is placed on the life and history of the object removed from its intended ritual use.

This work was made for Offenbach’s CHAI OF Jüdisches Kunst und Musik Festival and was shown with installations by Elianna Renner, Anna Schapiro, Daniel Läufer, Ella Ponizovsky Bergelson and performances by artist Adi Liraz and musicians Mary Ocher, Liraz, Daniel Kahn and Yeva Lapsker.
